David Farrell Melton

David Farrell Melton has been playing music for as long as he can remember. Throughout his youth, he was recognized for his skills in classical piano with certificates of honors from both the Hartford Conservatory and the Hartt School of Music. In high school, he joined the renowned Hall High School Concert Jazz Band, during which time he was recognized nationally as a two-time Downbeat award winner for Best Composition and Outstanding Soloist and a two-time Essentially Ellington award winner for Outstanding Soloist. By the age of 18, he had performed on stage with jazz legends Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Elling, Joe Temperley, Joe Lovano, and Phil Woods. In 2002, David packed his bags for New York City where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Music and Philosophy from NYU. Since graduation he has settled in Brooklyn, earning his living performing, recording, composing, and teaching music of all styles and genres. With a sound he describes as "pop, blues, and church infused," David’s music is as diverse as the NYC subway. Drawing inspiration from Debussy to Dylan, his melodies reflect the melting pot that is his home borough. Over the last several years, David has also worked various artists/bands of all styles and genres including Shaina Taub, Conrad Sewell, Elle Varner, Caleb Hawley, Gedeon Luke, and Milo Z, to name a few. He has performed at Lincoln Center, the Apollo Theater, and the Delacorte Theater (Shakespeare In The Park) and gigs regularly at clubs all over NYC including Cafe Wha?, Rockwood Music Hall, The Red Lion, The Bitter End, and Bill’s Townhouse. He also works intermittently at various churches including Grace Congregational Church, Metropolitan Community Church, Bethany Baptist Church, and Marble Collegiate Church. His debut EP, Church Avenue, was released over Christmas of 2015 and he is presently developing a musical of the same title.

DAVID MELTON
Capitol Hill

The gave his the cue
To down Avenue
Knowing full well they were to fight
And that a riot he was sure to incite

Now you can call it or call it a coup
But he’s got more than one screw
So before big explodes
Someone take away his codes

‘Cause the were still
If it was Lives they’d be to kill
And they knew it wasn’t a drill
When flags were on hill

There’s a with his fist in the air
He the wasn’t fair
But how the hell did he got his job
Now look at him on an mob

Of Neo-nazi boys
Who their guns are children’s toys
It’s hard in the law
After what we all saw

Cause the they were still
If it was Lives they’d be to kill
Still it was to spill
When flags were on hill

We all have the to of speech
And we don’t have to be a to preach
But If and lies are the you spread
Eventually will end up dead

And we saw it a mile away
America it was on full display
And the rest of the held its applause
When was put on pause

Cause the they were still
If it was Lives they’d be to kill
And it gave a chill
When flags were on hill
